Mexico Remains Top Travel Destination for U.S. Market

Playa del Carmen

Our south of the border neighbor remains a top travel destination for the U.S. market. The Mexico Ministry of Tourism and the Mexico Tourism Board‘s second quarter reports show that Mexico continues to have high brand awareness for Americans and be the most remembered destination outside of the continental United States.

The Secretary of Tourism and Director General of the Board, Secretary Gloria Guevara, also reported that the number of international tourists (those who travel to Mexico, stay at least one night, and cross the border) increased by 4.1 percent with respect to the same period the prior year. In addition, the intent of North Americans to travel to Mexico grew 5.3 percent compared to the same period in 2011.

The Tourism Board attributes the increase to new promotional and market diversification strategies they’ve implemented in international markets. It doesn’t hurt that it’s close, beautifula and cheap, either!
