Dominican Republic: Playa CabareteCABARETE
Cabarete is a beach hamlet and resort town just nine miles to the east of Sosua. Its beach, with its tall and healthy palm and coconut trees, has some of the best windsurfing anywhere in the world. Rumor has it that Sir Richard Branson, of Virgin Group, Ltd. fame, had such a great weekend on the waves last fall that he spontaneously bought a couple of condos nearby.

Cabarete is the most upscale locale on the DR’s north coast, and many of “the beautiful people” come to its boutique condos, hotels and resorts to enjoy a hot nightlife and days packed with tanning on a breathtaking beach, surfing, water skiing and deep sea fishing. Lounges, bars and discos line a waterfront strip that rivals South Beach’s, pulsating with the beat of salsa, merengue, bachata, house, pop, techno, hip-hop and reggaeton. Nikki Beach recently opened one of its signature restaurants in Cabarete, Wyndham has a great resort, and there are casinos and other entertainment venues for anyone intent on letting loose and having a late-night good time.
